Disability Services Guide |
Disability is a physical or mental state preventing impaired
individuals from normal fulfillment of everyday activities. All
civilized states have created infrastructural objects which provide a
complex of services for disabled people to improve their functional
capacities (if possible) and help with social adaptation. An
establishment specializing in medical support for citizens with
manifested impairments is called disabilities services center. This
type of medical institutions recruit professional personnel which
fulfills certain functions and offers a set of disability services
comprising physical, mental and/or sensory ones. The range of services
include: examination, testing and analysis-making, qualified medical
support during the whole course of a disease, medication prescription
and consultations, post-traumatic rehabilitation (in case of an
accidental or industrial injury), psychological help and many necessary
options. Any modern disability services center has got established
connections with: 1) social organs which are authorized to provide
necessary medical equipment and items for disabled individuals (such as
wheelchairs, hygienic toilet chairs, crutches, walkers,
rollators, orthopedic mattresses,
glasses, contact lens, hearing aid devices and many other important
items); 2) health resorts (which invite guests for recreation and
rehabilitation); 3) other medical rehabilitation centers of various
profiles.
Medical centers provide developmental disability services for children
and adults. Children with mental or emotional disorders are supposed to
be treated in appropriate establishments according to a specialized
educational program and proper individual approach. Aging disability
refers to health deterioration that might be caused by chronic diseases
as a result of the growing older. Aging disability services mainly
include patient’s common supportive treatment. |
